Milling Machine: Types Of Milling Machines

Because there are several models, the main parts of a milling machine (เครื่อง มิ ล ลิ่ ง which is the term in Thai) can vary from one configuration to another. As for the advanced system can be classified as manual or automatic (electric or hydraulic). As for its structure, you can have a workshop (or tooling – greater flexibility) and production (greater productivity) milling machines.

Regarding the spindle position:

Horizontal milling machine (spindle axis parallel to the work table)

Vertical milling machine (shaft axis perpendicular to the work table)

Universal milling machine (can be configured for vertical or horizontal)

Omniverse milling machine (universal with a table that can be tilted)

Duplex milling machine (two simultaneous spindles)

triplex milling machine

multiplex milling machine

special milling machines

Milling machines are generally classified according to the position of their spindle to the work table. The work table is the machine where the part to be machined is fixed. The spindle is the part of the machine where the tool is clamped.

As for the application, there are several types of milling machines:

Conventional milling machine (tool machine)

Pantograph milling machine (engraver)

Essential milling machine (specific for making internal and external keys)

Tooth milling machine (specific for machining gears)

Copy milling machine (the probe touches a model, and the tool reproduces it on the part)

Main Parts Of A Milling Machine

To understand what milling is, it is essential to know the parts of the milling machine and what a milling machine is.

Parts of a universal milling machine:

The universal milling machine has two spindles, one horizontal and one vertical.

The vertical axis is located in the head, upper part of the machine.

The horizontal axis is located on the machine body.

The universal milling machine has two axes, which allow it to be used horizontally and vertically.

Main parts of the milling machine in an omniverse milling machine:

Base: supports the machine.

Column: main structure, houses the drive system and motors, has vertical movement guides.

Console: slides along with the column guides, performs the vertical movement of the piece, houses the saddle and table drive mechanism, has transverse horizontal movement guides.

Saddle: bottom slides through console guides make a horizontal transverse movement. Top rotates in a horizontal plane, tilt the part, has longitudinal horizontal movement guides.

Table: slides through the upper saddle guides, makes a longitudinal horizontal movement, has T-slots to fix parts and accessories, and channel the fluid flow.

Torpedo: mounted on the column when the milling machine is horizontal and with a long tool.

Vertical head: fixes on the column and connects to the spindle, changes the horizontal configuration to vertical.

Arbor: receives more power from the motor, provides the turning motion for the tool, turns in both directions.
